Adille Sumariwalla, the president of Athletics Federation of India (AFI), mentioned that the organization has formulated a provisional domestic calendar for the upcoming year, taking into consideration international events such as the Paris Olympic Games.

The National Inter-State Senior Championships in Panchkula are scheduled to take place from June 27 to June 30, following the conclusion of the Federation Cup.

Sumariwalla stated that,

“The domestic competition in Panchkula will act as a final selection for the Paris Olympic Games.”

The upcoming 2024 World Relays in the Bahamas, scheduled for May 4-5, will serve as a significant global competition where athletes will have the opportunity to secure qualification berths for the Paris Olympics.

Sumariwalla said,

“We want our core group of athletes to peak at the right time and excel at the international level.”

The global calendar is set to kick off with the Asian Indoor Championships taking place in Tehran, Iran, from February 21 to 23. Notably, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the champion shot-putter from the Asian Games, and long jumper Murali Sreeshankar have decided to forego participation in the World Indoor Championships slated for March. Instead, they are prioritizing their Olympic preparations, despite having qualified for the aforementioned event.
