On Monday, the Secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah, announced that German sports apparel giant Adidas will be Team India’s new kit sponsor. Adidas comes as a replacement for Kewal Kiran Clothing Ltd, the maker of Killer Jeans, who served as the interim sponsor after the previous sponsor, Mobile Premier League Sports (MPL Sports), withdrew from the agreement prematurely.

Killer Jeans, the current sponsor, will see its contract come to an end on May 31, making way for the upcoming partnership with Adidas. Before Killer Jeans, Mobile Premier League (MPL) held the position of kit sponsor for the Indian team. For a 3 year deal, MPL paid the Indian board Rs 6.5 lakh per match and 9 crores in royalties.

In addition to the ongoing developments, the BCCI is actively searching for a new primary sponsor as reports indicate that the current sponsor, Byju’s, is considering terminating their deal before the agreed-upon end date in November 2023.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team will be part of highly anticipated final match of the World Test Championship against Australia, set to commence on June 7.
