Indian wrestlers have always made our country proud. Be it cunning bouts of Sushil Kumar at Beijing Olympics, or smart moves of Sakshi Malik and Yogeshwar Dutt. Till now India has 5 Olympic medals (wrestling) in its bag. Seeing the passion and dedication of these young wrestlers, we can definitely hope for many more medals in the future. Indian Wrestling has a glorious past and a bright future.

Highlights of the game!

Phogat’s match against the world number 7 (Vanesha Kaladzinskay, Belarusian) was not an easy task. Currently, world number 2 Phogat launched a consistent attack on the opponent. But she was smart too. After a sea-saw battle between both the wrestlers, finally Vinesh prevailed.

This led to an early 4-0 lead in the 53 kg final. But the very next moment Kaladzinskay initiated counter attacks. With a left-leg attack on Phogat,  Kaladzinskay made it 4-4. It was indeed a brilliant move by Belarusian.

Later, Vinesh took another break point, leading to a 6-4 lead. The Belarusian tried her level best to put pressure on the Indian with another four-point throw. But with 25 seconds to go, Vinesh‘s deadly move fetched her four more points for a 10-8 lead. From here, Phogat got into a position from where she ensured herself a gold.

Road to Tokyo 2021

Vinesh Phogat is the only Indian woman wrestler to have qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games. After Shakshi Malik’s iconic bronze at the Rio olympics, India is now hoping to have another wrestling medal. All eyes on Vinesh Phogat.

The next tournament for Vinesh is the UWW ranking series event — Matteo Pellicone in Italy, where fellow Tokyo Qualifiers Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya will also be seen in action from March 4-7.
