A total pool of 346 cricketers will go under the hammer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction in Jaipur on December 18, as announced on Tuesday.
While 1003 players had initially registered, the final list has been trimmed after the eight IPL franchises submitted their list of shortlisted players.
This time around the highest reserve price is INR 2 crore and only nine overseas players – Brendon McCullum, Chris Woakes, Lasith Malinga, Shaun Marsh, Sam Curran, Colin Ingram, Corey Anderson, Angelo Mathews, D’Arcy Short – have opted to be slotted in the highest bracket.
Jaydev Unadkat, last edition’s top Indian grosser with an enormous final bid amount of INR 11.5 crore leads among Indian players with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. On the other hand, eKingsss XI Punjab all-rounders Yuvraj Singh and Axar Patel have set their base price at INR 1 crore.
There has been a massive shuffle in some of the teams, with the likes of Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils – now Delhi Capitals – releasing almost every player that were at their helm.
Whereas, the likes of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have retained their core group of players. Each team will look to strengthen their squad, however, with the ICC Cricket World Cup 9 starting just after IPL 9, few overseas players might not be available for the entire season.
