India Open Day 4: Four Indians Progress into Semis

PV Sindhu, Srikanth, and Parupalli Kashyap raised India’s hopes for the win after progressing to the singles’ semifinals at USD 350,000 India Open on Friday.

The first match of Day 4 of India Open Badminton saw Indian women’s doubles pair of Aparna Balan and Sruthi defeated by the top-seeded Thailand pair Kititharakul / Prajongjai by a score of 21-8; 21-11. The top seeds continue where they left as they wrap the second set 21-11 and advance to quarterfinals.

Another Indian Women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost to Indonesia’s pair of Greysia Polii and Apriyani. The later are qualified for the semi-finals.

India’s great women shuttler P.V. Sindhu proudly storms into the semifinals after defeating Mia Blichfeldt by a score 21-19, 22-20.
Sindhu managed a three-point lead to make it 17-14 in the first game. The match was not easy for either of them. After a tough fight, Sindhu took the first game 21-19. She kept herself in rich form in the second game to clinch 22-20 win.

Srikanth Gets the Better of Praneeth

Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeats his compatriot Sai Praneeth (IND) by a score of 21-23; 21-11; 21-19 to ensure his entry into the semi-finals. The game was a neck to neck battle from the starting. However, Sai Praneeth clinched the 1st set with a score of 23-21. In the second set, Srikanth made a strong comeback and put in a strong performance to win the second set 21-11. The third set saw a tie 16-16 but Srikanth put the top gear to clinch four points straight and won the third set overall winning the game.

Parupalli Kashyap (India) defeated Taiwan’s Wang Tzu Wei by a score of 21-23; 21-11; 21-11 and earned a place in the semi-finals. With a bunch of mistakes happening from both the sides, Kashyap managed to make fewer mistakes in the net so as to claim a win against his opponent. His entry in the semi-finals must be a morale booster for Kashyap who hasn’t been in the semifinals of any major tournaments for a while.

Also, Indian pair Attri Manu and Reddy B. Sumeeth defeated their contingent pair of
Jerry Chopra and Shivam Sharma by a score of 21-10; 21-12. But H.S. Prannoy (India) lost to Viktor Axelsen of Denmark by a score of 21-10; 21-16.
