Most number of 50s in T20Is (20)

On 8th February 2019, Rohit Sharma became the batsman with the most number of half-centuries in T20 international cricket (20). This came in the 2nd T20i against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland. Rohit scored a crucial knock of 50 (29) as India won the match comfortably by 7 wickets and 7 balls remaining. Rohit shares this record with his skipper Virat Kohli, who also has 20 T20i centuries to his name. The batsman behind them is New Zealand’s opener Martin Guptill, with 16 fifties to his name.

Only captain to score a 100 in T20 Internationals

The ‘Hitman’ is the only cricketer to score a 100 in a T20 international innings, that too on two occasions. He had this record to his name when he scored an extremely explosive innings of 118 (43) against Sri Lanka, at Holkar Stadium, Indore in December 2017. Rohit scored at an unbelievable strike rate of 274.41. He led India to score a mammoth total of 260/5 (20) which is India’s highest total in T20 internationals and 3rd highest overall. India won the match convincingly by 88 runs.

His 2nd T20i century as a captain came against West Indies in 2018 when he scored 111 not out of just 61 balls in Lucknow.

Fastest to 200 sixes in ODIs

On 1st November 2018, Rohit Sharma became the quickest batsman to reach 200 sixes in One Day Internationals. It took him only 187 innings to achieve this feat. This came in the final ODI of West Indies’ tour of India in 2018. India won the match very easily by 9 wickets and 211 balls remaining. Rohit Sharma stands on the 5th position in the list of the most number of sixes in ODI cricket with 221 sixes (and counting) to his name. He is also 4th in the overall list of all the three formats combined, with more than 354 sixes in his account.

Most % of runs off boundaries in a T20i innings

In his super explosive knock of 118 against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma scored 108 runs in boundaries. This means that the Indian vice-captain scored 91.52% runs by hitting 12 fours and 10 sixes. This is the highest percentage of runs in boundaries scored by a batsman in a T20 international innings of 30 or more balls. With his 22 boundaries, Rohit surpassed the previous record of Ireland’s Paul Stirling who scored 54 out of 61 runs in boundaries against Canada in 2012, which led to 88.52% of his runs in boundaries.

Only batsman to have outscored the team twice in ODIs

Rohit Sharma is the only batsman to have scored more runs than the entire opposition team on 2 occasions in ODIs. The first one came in the historic match against Sri Lanka in 2014, when Sharma played one of the best ODI innings in cricket. Rohit scored 264 runs himself at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The Sri Lankan team were all out for 251, 13 runs short of Rohit’s magical knock of 264!

The second time this happened was in his home town at the Brabourne Stadium of Mumbai. Rohit scored 162 (137) against the West Indies and helped India register a huge total of 377/5 in 50 overs. The Caribbeans were bowled out for a mere 153 in 36.2 overs, ending up scoring 9 runs less than Rohit’s 162.

Only batsman to have 150+ scores 7 times in ODIs

On 29th October 2018, Rohit Sharma became the only cricketer to score seven 150 or more runs in an ODI innings, which is the most by any cricketer in ODI cricket. With his 162 against West Indies, he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Australia’s David Warner previous best of six 150+ scores. The 150+ scores of Rohit Sharma are as follows:

Rohit smashed 33 fours in the 4th ODI of Micromax Cup 2014, against Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma broke a lot of records in this game. This is the most number of 4s hit by a batsman in an ODI innings. Sharma toyed around with the Sri Lankan bowling and hit the ball at any corner of the ground he preferred. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 25 fours in his famous knock of 200* vs South Africa in 2010 at Gwalior.

In his amazing innings of 209 (158) against Australia in 2013, Rohit Sharma smashed 16 sixes and created a record of becoming the batsman to hit the most number of sixes in an ODI. However, this record was later equaled by AB de Villiers (against West Indies at Johannesburg) and Chris Gayle (against Zimbabwe at Canberra) in the year 2015.

With his knock of 111 (61) vs West Indies in 2018, Rohit Sharma created a world record of becoming the first batsman to score 4 centuries in T20 internationals. With this knock of 118 (43), Rohit equaled South African big-hitter David Miller’s record of the fastest century against Bangladesh in 2017. Rohit smashed 12 fours and 10 sixes in just the 43 balls he faced.

Only Batsman to score 3 Double Hundreds in ODIs

On 13th December 2017, Rohit Sharma created history by becoming the first batsman in the history of cricket to score 3 double hundreds in ODIs. The ‘Hitman’ played an unbelievable unbeaten knock of 208 in just 153 balls against Sri Lanka at Mohali. He smashed 13 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 135.94. This was only the 2nd time that a captain scored a double hundred in an ODI. Here is the list of double hundred scored by Rohit:

He surpassed New Zealand’s opener Martin Guptill to earn this feat. Till date, he has scored 2,331 runs in 86 T20i innings. With a very long career ahead, Rohit might probably set a new record of becoming the first batsman to score 3000 runs in T20 internationals!

On 13th November 2014, Rohit Sharma wrote down his name in the history books of cricket by breaking one of the most important records in cricket. In the 4th ODI of Sri Lanka’s tour of India 2014, the Indian Vice-Captain played an unimaginable innings of 264 runs in just 173 balls at an even unimaginable strike rate of 152.63! With this incredible innings, Rohit surpassed Virender Sehwag for his 219 against West Indies in 2011. This is one of those records of Rohit Sharma which might not be broken by any cricketer in the coming future!
