Chennai Super Kings returned to the top of the league and became the first team to qualify in the 2019 Indian Premier League. Shane Watson was the star of the night as the Australian hit a timely knock of 96 to guide CSK to a comfortable 6 wicket over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Earlier in the evening, Manish Pandey had scored a brilliant 83 to help SRH reach a competitive total of 175/3 on a Chepauk pitch that has been on the slower side this season. The victory saw some records set. First, CSK became the first team to qualify in 10 playoffs in 10 seasons. Shane Watson crossed 8,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Historically @ChennaiIPL have been renowned for consistency of selection & trusting in quality & the value of those traits has been displayed today. A lot of teams would have dropped Watson after his poor run of form but CSK didn’t & their faith has been rewarded. #IPL #CSKvSRH

Watson neutralised Rashid. And that was the Game-Set and Match in #CSK’s favour. The biggest threat. So….Rashid has still never dismissed Watson in T20s. #CSKvSRH #IPL

CSK match has to go to the last over.Rule No.2
Refer Rule No.1 again#CSKvSRH— Ajay Srinivasan (@Ajaychairman) April 23, 2019
Pushing it into the final over with 9 to get makes no sense. They should have gone for it in the previous over with so many wickets in hand. #CSKvSRH

.@ChennaiIPL have made it a habit to take it to the last over but finish the game, winning by 6 wickets ?#CSKvSRH pic.twitter.com/8gAiGUx6oX
